Ms. Shirvell was born and raised in New York. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Virginia before moving to San Diego, CA. Admitted to practice law in 1993, her primary area of specialization is in the defense of cases brought under the United State's Longshore & Harbor Workers Compensation Act, including its extensions, the Defense Base Act, the Nonappropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act, and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. Her practice area also regularly handles matters involving claims under the Jones Act and general maritime law. Ms. Shirvell also defends cases under the State of California Workers Compensation Act.
